Spartan girls finished first in every event but one and either 1,2,3 or 1 & 2 in six events.
The medley relay team of Elena Kitchens, Rena French, Allyson Stansell, and Arwen Nielsen placed first and the medley team of Shawna Ashely Ingram, Seira French, Bianca Stefan, Kaylee McCrea came in second. Maya French won the 200 free with Ingram and Stefan finishing 3rd and 5th respectively. The most gut wrenching event is the 200 individual medley which was won by co-captain Stansell, with Nielsen finishing second and Kitchens coming in third giving the Spartan girls a clean sweep of the event.
R. French easily won the 50 free while Shirley Lopez came in second. Stansell easily won the 100 fly in 1:08.70 with Nielsen finishing second. R French narrowly held of Abby from Milwaukie in the meets closest contest. (French swam a 1:00.47 and very fast time for this early in the season.) The 500 free proved to be a very interesting race to watch with M. French and Kitchens going stroke for stroke for the first 200. Each swimmer was doing 22-23 strokes per 25 and almost in sync with each other. Sophomore M. French proved to be the stronger swimmer finishing nine seconds in front of freshman Kitchens.
The 200 free relay was won by R. French, Nielsen, Kichens and Stansell with the team of Stephan, Kennedy Godfrey, Sydney Lierman, and Elizabeth Lingaas finishing second and Kylee McCrea, Kiara McCrea, Melo Lazaro, and Mariah White in fourth place.
Our new senior swimmer Sarah Wilson won the backstroke in the time of 1:14.15 with Godfrey finishing third and Lierman coming in fourth. Miranda Dickinson finished second followed by Lingaas and S. French in third and fourth. Although the Spartan girls did not win this event they racked up nine point to Milwaukie’s six points for the first place finish. Our 400 free relay team of Dickinson, S French, M. French and Wilson finished first.
