Boys Varsity Wrestling · The Toughest In The Nation

Five Spartans wrestled in the Reno Tournament of Champions which is monikered as the toughest high school wrestling tournament in the nation.  They found out quickly how accurate that moniker is.  Tristin Keffer, Cole Siemon, Jayden Strickland, Nick Peterson, and Trevor Schubmehl combined for eight wins in the two day tournament. Keffer beat a Nevada opponent, Siemon beat a Colorado opponent, and Schubmehl beat Mario Hansen from Crook County.  The other five wins were from Peterson.  He started out with an 11-0 major decision over Cache Olsen from Idaho before dropping a 10-8 decision to Elise Brown Ton of Texas.  Peterson then rattled off four consecutive decisions over opponents from New Mexico, Idaho, and two from Nevada.  In the blood round, he fell 7-2 finishing one win shy of a medal. The tournament was tough, but has prepared the five well for upcoming battles in the post season.  Hillsboro results:
